Sully Sports end the season with a win

SULLY SPORTS 2

TONYREFAIL 1

SPORTS completed their season's fixtures with a victory over Tonyrefail who at one time looked good for the South Wales Senior League Division One title.

Both teams were missing players, but the visitors took an early lead when two defensive mistakes let in the Ton attacker who made no mistake, giving Damian Lack no chance in the Sully goal.

Sports created some good chances but the Ton defence held firm until a deep centre found Mark Brown at the far post and he beat the keeper with a header to give Sully the equaliser.

With captain Adam Govier limping off with a groin strain Sports settled again and went in at half time level.

Sully really pushed for a winner in the second half with the keeper very active and some desperate Ton defending. Sports eventually broke the deadlock when Ed Jones headed in from close range. Ton threw caution to the wind and could have equalised but the ton forward blazed his chance over the bar. Sports comfortably held on to their lead to finish the league in fifth position.

The defence had quite a good season having second fewest goals conceded and the attack were second highest scorers, but in reality the top quality team Fairwater deserved their success and were worthy winners of the league.

Man of the match was Anthony Ferguson.

Team: Damian Lack, Mike Lewis, Ed Jones, Adam Govier, Ross Taylor, Anthony Ferguson, Nigel Underdown, Chris Hurn, Mark Brown, Joseph Hinds, Jermain Martyn, Richard Yarr, Jacob Constant, Mitchell Taylor Moore.

ADMIRAL FC 4

Sports entertained Admiral who are pushing for the Vale Premier League title.

Sports were leading 2-1 near the break through two well taken goals from Linford Harris but Admiral came back strongly to take the match in the second half.

With players working at the Millennium Stadium the squad can take heart with this result which compliments a fine first season for the youngsters who were playing at under 17 level last season.

With Butty, Tipples and Tom adding experience to the team they have satisfied manager Bob Hayman's belief that they would hold their own in the big league.

Team: Lewis May, Karl Bryan, Sean Jachontow, David Allen, Tom Prosser, Grant Jones, Daniel Aeyad, Justin Tipples, Andrew McIlhiney, Ben Taylor, Lindford Harris, Luke Oeppen, James Prosser, Liam Sadler.

This Saturday sees Sully Sports Golf Open at Cotterell Park, tee off at 2pm.

The father/son combination of the Greenslades are hot favourites but the whole squad will be aiming to make the first club title theirs. The club thank Cotterell Park and member Anthony Ferguson for organising the event.
