| COMPETITIVE DEBUT: Fairfield netball team. |
THE YEAR 4 netball team from Fairfield travelled the short distance to Pen-y-Garth School on Monday evening to play against Canton and Vale netball club.
The girls from Fairfield have been practising on a regular basis but this was their first opportunity for a competitive match.
The game started with Canton taking an early lead but the Fairfield girls responded well and at the end of the first quarter the score was 2-1 in Canton's favour.
By half time, due to some excellent shooting from the Canton & Vale players, they had extended their lead to 5-1.
However, the Fairfield pupils did not give up and lead a spirited comeback in the second half.
Despite the score being 6-1 at the end of the third quarter, the final period of play was the best five minutes for the Fairfield girls. With some good attacking play and some excellent shooting they scored three goals without reply. The girls were delighted, as were the capacity crowd!
Despite their best efforts at the end of the fourth quarter the score was 6-4 in favour of the more experienced Canton team.
The Canton & Vale U10 netball team have had a good season this year, winning most of their matches in the Cardiff & District junior league.
The girls and staff from Fairfield would like to thank the Canton players and coaches for the friendly fixture and look forward to playing them again next season.
