Open to the public
THANK goodness that someone has finally seen sense and given Holm House the
opportunity to open its doors to the people of Penarth.
I have been infuriated by the small-minded rantings of a few residents who
seem to want to keep Marine Parade as their private domain.
Last week's letter from MP Camilleri was a typical example of this - and
the argument that you can't compare the hotel to an old people's home is
quite ridiculous. They share all of the same issues regarding waste and
traffic.
It's also odd that there were not great protests when the BBC filmed two
series of Tracy Beaker in the house, and Marine Parade was clogged with
trucks and staff coming and going at all times of the day and night.
Marine Parade is, after all, a public highway and not the property of a few
locals who seem reluctant to emerge from their privileged ivory towers.
The owners of Holm House have worked hard to create something exceptional,
so please let's have a few more positive letters of support.
I for one can't wait to visit, and I do hope that those who protested will
accept defeat gracefully and not now lodge complaints when a guest so much
as sneezes.

Dear Editor
Writing as someone who first visited Penarth as a child over 50 years ago, may I take this opportunity to congratulate those responsible for allowing a relaxation of the constraints imposed previously on the operation of Holm House. Anyone doubting the wisdom, or desireability, of such a move should seek to view the comments book maintained by the proprietors. It stands as a tribute to the vision, dedication and sheer hard work of everyone involved in an excellent venture. Now, discerning residents as well as eager visitors will be able to enjoy this superb experience - a real jewel in Penarth's crown. I am already looking forward to my next stay later in the year which will, incidentally, involve use of the Cross Country Trains service to and from Cardiff!
