Note shows bigotry

MAY I, through your columns, respond to the person who recently pinned an anonymous note to my lane door.

The note states: 'Litter Lout Social Housing, Please clear up your rubbish.

This is not a council estate'.

Whoever you are, I can advise you that my partner, Ben, and I, along with our two children, are owner occupiers of the above property and are working hard to renovate and improve it.

Such work necessitates the removal and disposal of unwanted furniture etc left by the previous occupants, along with the detritus that results from building and improvement work.

This waste is carried to the rear lane for subsequent disposal to the Council tip.

I recall that on the occasion, prior to your nocturnal visit, we had taken three such loads to the tip and had left one item, a garden chair, in the lane for disposal the following day.

So your attempt to label us as irresponsible litter louts is wide of the mark.

But this is not what I find most distasteful about your irksome little note.

What sickens me is its explicit bigotry. Your reference to social housing and Council estates, in this context, clearly indicates your contempt for the decent people who live in these properties.

This is bigotry of the lowest order.

And your method of delivering your message, creeping around under cover of darkness, distributing anonymous notes, is a clear indication of your cowardice.

You will note that my name and address, and other means of communicating with me, are published with this letter and you are welcome to do so if you wish to discuss this matter further.

I doubt however if you will have the courage to do so.
