Who's sorry?

I NEED first to apologise to a Penarth male motorist.

This was for something that happened on Saturday, April 26, at around 4.45pm.

My three-year-old son and I were using the zebra crossing at the top of Windsor Road by the clock tower roundabout.

The little lad let go of my hand and ran the remaining half of the crossing ahead of me. I told him this was wrong, that he must keep hold of my hand while crossing roads.

"But dad," he said, "the cars are not moving".

Using the second zebra crossing on Bradenham Place I kept a firmer grip.

Again he repeated that the cars had stopped.

While crossing Stanwell Road zebra crossing we were almost half way across and in no foreseeable danger, when...

At the start of this letter I apologised to a driver.

This apology is as sincere as the one the driver gave me through his open window, as he continued driving over the zebra crossing - missing my son and me by inches.

He did not pull over to see if we were all right.

Afterwards, it sinks in. My son could have been ahead of me as he wanted to do.

Readers - give this more thought than the driver has done, who is probably ignorant of what could have been.
