| PIER CRAWL: Author Chris Foote Wood is looking forward to revisiting Penarth Pier next month. |
THE Great British Piercrawlers will be reporting for duty at Penarth Pier next month, as they continue the fun competition to rediscover the seaside piers of England and Wales
As reported in last week's Penarth Times, The Great Big Piercrawl starts at Brighton Pier on June 10 - as author Chris Foote Wood, brother of comedienne Victoria Wood, revisits all 55 piers for his new book, "Walking Over the Waves - Quintessential British Seaside Piers", which is released this month.
Mr Foote Wood will visit Penarth Pier at 11am on Saturday, June 14, and will then give a talk at Chandlers Restaurant from 12pm.
Penarthians are invited to join Chris and local pier enthusiasts to 'walk the planks' - and the more piers you visit, the higher your Piercrawl Naval Rank'.
Visit three piers and you qualify as a Midshipman PierCrawler' - visit five and you become a Sub Lieutenant'.
The rankings continue up to Admiral of the Fleet', achieved after 20 pier visits.
Mr Foote Wood said: "The idea is to get more people to visit more piers, and to provide points of interest for the seaside holiday or day trip.
"Whenever my wife and I have visited Penarth, we've always enjoyed what is a brilliant example of a small seaside resort with character.
"I look forward to returning next month."
