Youngster donates birthday presents to hospice

FUNDRAISER: Olivia Tucker, six.

IT is not often you get a six-year-old refusing birthday presents, but Olivia Tucker from Penarth was happy to do this to help the children and families who visit Ty Hafan, the Children's Hospice in Wales.

Instead of her friends buying her gifts, she asked them to donate what they would have spent to the local hospice in Sully, which also benefited from a donation from her dad, Robert Tucker, who works for Carlyle Finance and who won £200 to become the company's voice on its answering machine.

"I have been to Ty Hafan on a number of occasions and it is a very humbling experience, as we all take our good health for granted," said Robert.

"Carlyle Finance and its staff have always supported Ty Hafan and so donating the prize seemed the most natural thing to do."

The family trend was set three years ago when Olivia's big sister Verity also donated money to Ty Hafan in lieu of birthday gifts. The family has raised over £1,200 in total.

"It is a very thoughtful and special thing to do," said Helen Young, Community Fundraiser at Ty Hafan.

"On behalf of all the children and families who come to Ty Hafan I would like to thank the Tucker family for their kindness and support".
